Story of the Day #108
By Kevin J. Doyle
One day I jumped high into the sky and landed right on the sun! I started walking around up there and it was pretty hot but that didn’t bother me a bit. I was wearing my favorite flip flops and bright blue swim trunks. I scooped up fireballs and tossed them at the stars! I stretched out on my back and felt the sun’s heat crawl all up and down my spine. I scooped out little holes in the sun and used my finger to draw pictures right on its surface. I held the flames of the sun in my hands and felt them slip through my fingers. I could see the whole universe from up there! I shouted “HELLO!” to the other planets but no one yelled back. I didn’t stay too long though because I forgot to bring extra sunscreen.
Actually… I was in my sandbox… but it REALLY was hot as fire!
When I’d floated back down from the sun, I landed right by a huge wolf! It was chewing on a bone and I just walked right up and grabbed that bone! Then the wolf and I started a tussle. We rolled and rolled in the grass and got up and chased each other and then tumbled around some more. I tossed his bone all the way across the world but he ran it down and brought it right back to me. I threw that bone over and over again – from here to China and all the way to the North Pole! I heaved it to the feet of the Statue of Liberty, over the Golden Gate Bridge and even to the bottom of the Grand Canyon! That wolf brought his bone back to me every single time.
Actually… I was just playing with my dog… but he CAN run to China and back! Actually… he can just run to our fence and back.
After that wolf fell asleep for a nap, I saw a stagecoach, being pulled by two horses, rumble by the front of our house! There were bad cowboys on it and they were getting away with a bank robbery! I could see bags and bags of gold in the back of the coach. I jumped off my porch right onto that stagecoach and pushed those robbers into the river. They just floated along there hanging on to a branch until the sheriff came and got them. They couldn’t swim. Meanwhile, I drove those horses and that stagecoach back to town to return the money and everybody cheered!
Actually… I was just riding down the driveway in my little red wagon… but I DID have bags of gold! Actually… they were bags of marbles.
When I got that stagecoach safely back to town I saw a mean looking tough guy ride up on a big shiny black motorcycle.
His voice was low and scratchy when he said, “I’m the toughest, meanest looking motorcycle rider on this street. You wanna race?”
“You bet!” I said. “But when I win I’m taking that shiny black cycle of yours!”
Then I jumped on my speedy red motorcycle, cranked up the engine, and we shot off down the street! We raced and raced like flashes of lightning. He tried to bump me a few times to knock me down but I kept right on my cycle and stayed just ahead of him. Finally the finish line was in sight so I jumped my ride off the curb, over the top of his shiny black motorcycle and right in to the winner’s circle! That mean looking tough guy wasn’t so mean or tough anymore as he rode away on my little sister’s tiny pink scooter. I smiled at the cheering crowd, waved both my arms in the air and admired my new shiny black motorcycle.
Actually… I was just riding up and down our street on my bicycle… but I did jump off the curb AND fly over a car! Actually… I just went over a bump in the road… but I did win a BRAND NEW motorcycle! Actually… it was just a tiny toy bike that someone had left out in their grass.
After I parked my new shiny black motorcycle in our garage, I heard someone scream that there was a dangerous sea creature scaring people in a nearby ocean! Right away, I ran into my room and grabbed my diving mask, snorkel, fins and dart gun. I hurried back outside and jumped right into that ocean and starting swimming towards the monster. It was bigger than I thought and it was gooey, green and gross! I managed to avoid all ten of its swinging spiky arms and then I got close enough to take a shot with my dart gun. But, ‘Oh No!’ I cried as I realized that the water had ruined my gun! The sea creature was after me as quick as a wink so I said a magic spell that made my hands as big as a hundred pancakes and then I splashed all the water out of that lake! The sea creature was washed out too and it scurried off through the grass to find a new ocean to hide in.
Actually… I was just playing in our backyard kiddie pool… but I did fight a HUGE sea creature! Actually… it was just a small frog… but I DID save my little sister from it! Actually… she was more upset that I splashed all the water out of the pool.
It had been a long day of sun walking, wolf wrestling, robbery stopping, motorcycle racing, and sea creature fighting – I was tired! So I went inside our big stone castle and found the King and Queen of the land serving a yummy supper of fire roasted salamander tongues, candied beetle eggs and honey baked tree bark. I ate everything I could and then drank a big mug of cool creamy moon juice to wash it all down. After that, I climbed a thousand steps to my room in the tallest tower and settled into my warm bed. But suddenly – I was wide awake at the loud clangs of swords clashing outside my window and the THUMPS and WHUMPS of arrows hitting our castle walls! I dashed out of bed, grabbed my suit of armor and charged forward, determined to protect our castle! The King and Queen of the land cheered me along and shouted my name over and over again!
Actually… I should probably get back to bed right now… but tomorrow, I WILL be ready for battle!
